Our Mission
Only 8% of film creatives come from working-class backgrounds.
The UK film industry is becoming increasingly inaccessible, with fewer routes in for those without wealth or connections. The statistics are stark - while over 60% of people in film, TV, and radio come from middle or upper-class backgrounds, just 8% are from working-class origins.
We’re here to be a part of changing that.

At Soulscreen, our mission goes beyond simply making content - we want to help open doors.
Founders Ian and Tyla both come from working-class backgrounds, and they understand how challenging it can be to find a way into the screen industries. With Ian’s extensive experience and Tyla’s growing journey as a producer, the company is rooted in a shared belief: that stories from all walks of life deserve to be seen and heard.
The industry has lost many of the stepping stones it once had - grassroots initiatives, short film schemes, entry-level opportunities. These pathways helped earlier generations get started, and without them, the playing field has become even harder to access.
We’re committed to contributing what we can. Whether through the stories we tell, the people we work with, or the opportunities we help create, we want to be part of a shift toward a more inclusive, more representative screen industry.
We care about raw, honest storytelling; stories that reflect real life, real people, and speak to something deeper. We hope the work we make won’t just entertain, but represent, challenge, and inspire.
